Teacher Netta's Notes

Since the beginning of the year the kids have been practicing their shapes through movement and song. You may have heard parts of the songs we sing- they get stuck in your head easily! A new activity has been introduced to the kids that has been very popular lately. I see it taken off the shelf everyday! This Play-Doh work, challenges the students to create a shape by manipulating the Play-Doh to fit on a colored outline.

When working with a child individually, I also make sure to review the name of the shape to help each student build their math vocabulary. In addition to practicing the look of the shape and its name, this activity also helps develop fine motor skills by transforming the Play-Doh with the fingers into the shape the kids choose. I predict this activity will be out for a while-who doesn't love playing with Play-Doh?
