Leaf Magic!
Taking our inside learning outside this week was great fun. The children had a brief lesson in the science behind why leaves change color in the fall and then we went on a search for leaves that would show us dispersing chlorophyll and the emergent pigments that had been in the leaves all along. Some of the older children turned their nature finds into art pieces with leaf prints!
A favorite game this week in Kindergarten was “Fox and Chicken”. During our lesson the children hunted around the playground for as many different types of leaves as they could find. They brought them back to our circle and we sorted them by size, color, and type. When we were finished with our investigations, we put all of the leaves in one pile and made a nest out of them that the chicken had to sit in. The chicken was blindfolded and had to listen for the stealthy fox that might be approaching to steal her eggs! The “Kinderchicks” did an amazing job keeping their eggs safe!
